LTE Band priority

Fri Apr 05, 2024 3:22 pm

Hello,

Is there a way to setup a band prioritization for R11e-LTE modem?
We are facing the issue that the modem is connecting to Band 8 (900Mhz only 5Mhz channel width) which is causing a very low bandwidth.
Other bands are available with good signal strength and parameters but it connect to it only after turning off the BAND 8 in configuration.
This is not an option because band 8 have better coverage than other bands and in case of one base station failure device will go offline.

On the R11e-LTE, that's how it works AFAIK. e.g. it's essentially of filter on allowed bands. Have you tried without ANY band filters? There is a lot of subtleties in how a band is selected out of your control (e.g. at the end of day, the tower/carrier is in charge what happens)

Normally we are using default configuration so without band selection but this is working as described in my previous post.
This problem doesn't exist on R11e-LTE6 as it is connecting to 2 bands.. but stil for example band8 + band3 has lower performance than band3 + band7.

LTE speeds are variable... and modem selection is based on signal levels and modems reported CQI/etc. Different modems report different things and tower reacts differently as result. Don't mean sound coy... more that I'm not sure there is much you can do.

Perhaps disabling 2G and 3G network modes might cause some different in what happens, but dunno.

About all you can do is scripting to set the specific band. e.g. use a netwatch with an on-up script to set band to set just band 7 and if it fails to reset to LTE to use all bands in on-down script. You can then either manually try just band 7 (after a netwatch changes it) or add schedule script that periodically reset LTE to just band 7 (and let netwatch reset back if ping fails). A bit complex, but possible.
