    (ASK) Kode DSCP Lengkap dengan Artinya?

    Mohon pencerahan dari para suhu ttg DSCP (TOS) kode beserta artinya, soalnya agak terkacaukan pemahaman saya setelah baca WIKI dan GOOGLING.

    Ternyata ada DSCP buat WMM yg hanya ada 4 priority dari 0 sampai 7 (background, best effort, video, voice), ada juga DSCP ip header dari 0 sampai 63, tapi priority cuman dari angka 0 sampai 7.

    Nah yg jadi pertanyaan, untuk dimasukkan ke MANGLE (ACTION->CHANGE DSCP(TOS)), pake DSCP yang mana? jika ingin membuat MINIMUM_DELAY atau MAXIMUM_THROUGHPUT,dsb.....

    Menurut mbah google, untuk MINIMUM-DELAY adalah DSCP/TOS = 8 (bener gak?) tambah bingung.... Click here to enlarge

    Pada gak melakukan optimasi prioritas trafik kah?

    Padahal penting lho, terutama buat query dns dan ping, kasih prioritas tertinggi (minimum-delay), biar cepet ngresolvenya...

    Bisa juga buat pantau CCTV warnet dari rumah biar gak ngelag, atau biar yahoo video&voice chat lancar,dsb...

    How WMM works

    WMM works by dividing traffic into 4 access categories: background, best effort, video, voice. QoS policy (different handling of access categories) is applied on transmitted packets, therefore it is transmitting device is treating different packets differently - that is - e.g. AP does not have control over how clients are transmitting packets, and clients do not have control over how AP transmits packets.

    Mikrotik AP and client classifies packets based on priority assigned to them, according to table (as per WMM spec): 1,2 - background 0,3 - best effort 4,5 - video 6,7 - voice

    To be able to use multiple WMM access categories, not just best effort where all packets with default priority 0 go, priority must be set for those packets. By default all packets (incoming and locally generated) inside router have priority 0.

    "Better" access category for packet does not necessarily mean that it will be sent over the air before all other packets with "worse" access category. WMM works by executing DCF method for medium access with different settings for each access category (EDCF), which basically means that "better" access category has higher probability of getting access to medium - WMM enabled station can be considered to be 4 stations, one per access category, and the ones with "better" access category use settings that make them more likely to get chance to transmit (by using shorter backoff timeouts) when all are contending for medium. Details can be studied in 802.11e and WMM specification

    Combining TOS and IP Precedence to Mimic DSCP

    The IPv4 ToS byte was part of the original 1981 definition of Internet Protocol in RFC 791, which specified a 3-bit precedence value and 3-bits of ToS attributes.
    In the tables below, "tos" values refer to the entire byte.

    RFC 2474 reworked the ToS as a 6-bit Differentiated Services Code Point (DSCP) and, soon after, RFC 3168 allocated the lowest two bits for Error Congestion Notification (ECN, an IP analogy of frame-relay FECN and ATM EFCI).

    You can also get the equivalent of DSCP, even on older routers that support only TOS and Precedence, by combining the TOS and Precedence values. All Assured Forwarding DSCP Class 1 values are equivalent to an IP Precedence value of 1, Priority. All Class 2 values correspond to IP Precedence 2, Immediate; Class 3 values to IP Precedence 3, Flash; and Class 4 corresponds to an IP Precedence value of 4, Flash Override.
    The higher IP Precedence values are not used for Assured Forwarding.

    You can then select the appropriate Drop Precedence group from the TOS values. However, you have to be a little bit careful, since there are 4 TOS bits. Combining this with the 3 bits from IP Precedence gives you 7 bits to work with, while DSCP only uses the first 6. For example, looking at the bit values that give AF11 , you can see that the last three bits are 010. So the corresponding TOS value would be 0100, which is 4 in decimal, or maximum throughput.

    You can see that a TOS value of 4, maximum throughput, always gives the
    lowest Assured Forwarding Drop Precedence. Selecting a TOS value of 8, minimum delay, gives Medium Drop Precedence in all classes. And you can get the highest Assured Forwarding Drop Precedence value by setting a TOS value of 12, which doesn't have a standard name in the TOS terminology.

    There is reasonably good interoperability between the Assured Forwarding DSCP variables and the combination of IP Precedence and TOS, which is good because it is impossible for a router to tell the difference in general. Only the three top priorities of IP Precedence are not represented, and that is simply because these DSCP values are used for guaranteed delivery services.

    The biggest difference between the TOS and Assured Forwarding models is that where the Assured Forwarding model is used to define a type of queueing, the TOS model is used to select a particular path. TOS was intended to work was with a routing protocol, such as OSPF, in selecting the most appropriate path for a particular packet based on its TOS value.
    That is, when there are multiple paths available, a TOS-based OSPF (such as the version suggested in RFC 2676) would attempt to make a reasonable TOS assignment to each of them. Then, if the router needed to forward a packet that was marked with a particular TOS value, it would attempt to find a route with the same TOS value. Note that Cisco never incorporated this type of functionality into its OSPF implementation, however. So, if TOS is going to have an effect on how packets are forwarded, you have to configure it manually by means of Policy-based routing.

    This was the historical intent for TOS, but in practice most engineers found that it was easier to just use the TOS field to influence queueing behavior rather than path selection. So the IETF developed the more modern and useful DSCP formalism.

    Assured Forwarding introduces the concept of Per-Hop Behavior (PHB). Each DSCP value has a corresponding well-defined PHB that the router uses not to select a path, but to define how it will forward the packet. The router will forward a packet marked AF13 along the same network path as a packet marked AF41 if they both have the same destination address. However,
    it will be more likely to drop the AF13 packet if there is congestion, and it will forward the AF41 packet first if there are several packets in the queue.

    From this, it should be clear why it is easier to implement Assured Forwarding than TOS-based routing on a network.

    in mikrotik v 2.9 specify TOS value to be used in conjunction with action=change-tos

    new-tos (max-reliability | max-throughput | min-cost | min-delay | normal integer) -
    max-reliability - maximize reliability (ToS=4)
    max-throughput - maximize throughput (ToS=8)
    min-cost - minimize monetary cost (ToS=2)
    min-delay - minimize delay (ToS=16)
    normal - normal service (ToS=0)

    DSCP only uses 6 bits in the TOS byte. The other two can still be used for ECN (explicit congestion notification). MT looks at all 8 bits in the byte.

    So.... to convert between the DSCP decimal value and the MT TOS value, multiply by 4

    Now, to get DSCP value to decimal:
    For the CSx values, multiple x by 8. ex. CS5 is decimal 40 is MT 160
    For the AFxy values, use 8x + 2y. ex. AF32 is decimal 28 is MT 112
    And DSCP EF is always decimal 46 is MT 184
